Jesus Heals a Deaf Man Craft

by Karen & Grace Morris

People came to Jesus with different problems. With the deaf man craft we will look at men who could not hear.

Here are two different crafts that you can make.

Both of the deaf man crafts are easy to do. All you will need are paper plates, pipe cleaners, and paper cups.

Jesus Touches a Deaf Man Craft

One day, some people brought a deaf and mute man to Jesus. Jesus put his fingers in the man's ears and touched the man's tongue. He then looked up to heaven and said Ephphatha which means to be open. The man then and could hear and speak. You can read about the account in Mark 7:31-37

Another Deaf Man Craft

Jesus hears the deaf earmuffs

Here are some earmuffs that represent people that are hard of hearing. Before you start, bring in a pair of safety headphones to show your students how difficult it is to hear with them on.

You will need;

  • 3-ounce paper cups
  • Construction paper
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Hole punch
cut the shapes for the muffs

To make each headphone; you will need 2 paper cups, a 12-inch and two 6-inch pipe cleaners, and some construction paper.

From the bottom of the cup, measure 1/2 inch. Cut on your line. Do the same with the other cup.

Cut two 6 by 1-inch pieces of construction paper. Then, fold the paper in half.

glue the paper to the cup

Place some glue on the inside of the rectangle. With the fold on the cut edge of the cup, glue the rectangle to the inside and outside. Overlap the ends.

Cut an 8 by 3-inch rectangle from construction paper. Fold the rectangle so that it is 8 by 1 1/2 inches. On the paper, print, “I Want to Hear.”

Punch a hole in the side of each cup.

Punch a hole approximately 1/4 inch from the edge of the rectangle. Make another hole about 1/2 inches from this hole. Do the same to the other side of the rectangle.

finish the earmuffs

Thread the 12-inch pipe cleaner through the holes in the rectangle. You want the pipe cleaner on the bottom of the rectangle.

Twist the two 6-inch pipe cleaners to the ends of the 12-inch pipe cleaner.

Thread the ends of the 6-inch pipe cleaners through the hole on the paper cup. Adjust to fit on the child's head.
